Description
Nocturnalities: Bargaining Beyond Rest project delved into the cultural, political, and intimate dimensions of rest, exhaustion, and care within the art world and beyond. Central to the project was the creation of the REST Archive, a dynamic, submission-based digital platform designed as a “virtual body” that never rests. This archive became a repository for diverse contributions, including academic texts, creative works, memes, soundscapes, and manifestos, all reflecting on the multifaceted politics of rest, sleep, and care.
In addition to the archive, Nocturnalities REST Archive featured a curated online exhibition that was launched in the winter of 2024. Contributors of original creative works were invited to submit pieces for selection, with the first 25 chosen entries awarded with a contributors’ fee). The selected contributors were announced in early December 2024.
However, the REST Archive remains open indefinitely for ongoing submissions, allowing for continuous growth as a global resource for exploring the politics, social dimensions, and artistic expressions of rest and care. Through its multifaceted approach, the project emphasized the communal and temporal boundaries of rest, fostering ongoing conversations about its significance in cultural and personal contexts.
