Moon 1 - Dichromia and Tetrachromia, 2024 is a digital drawing that serves as the foundational draft for a standalone weaving extracted from Hypersomnia (2024), a larger handwoven work transforming a year of sleep patterns into twelve moon cycles. This piece initiates the separation of each lunar cycle into distinct textiles, using sleep patterns as the architectural basis for each weaving. Supported by the Stokroos Seed Grant, Moon 1 - Dichromia and Tetrachromia reinterprets sleep data into a weaving draft language. The top diagram represents moments of sleep and wakefulness during the night, capturing disruptions such as insomnia, while the bottom diagram visualises fluctuations across sleep stages through colour. The draft also includes a 4-shaft pattern for the top and an 8-shaft pattern for the bottom, using plain weave and overshot techniques.
